Anybody remember the original Super Mario Kart and its battle mode? I loved that one. Made the game worthwhile even though I don’t really like racing games.
In that battle mode the best item to have was of course the red shell. When I got one I usually headed for the open space in the middle of each course and tried to take the opponent head on. Even if I couldn’t see them I often would just let the red shell loose as it is easy to get another one as long as the opponent doesn’t break the chain. And in the open space the shell has enough room to turn and get the opponent even if they are behind you.
You can of course look at the opponent’s screen to see in which color sector they are to go chase them. Or you can check in the same way if they can see you which means they’re already behind you. But I often blindly shot the shell relying on pure intuition. The majority of times I just missed. But when I hit them it was spectacular.

When I started to become interested in Japanese comics and cartoons there wasn’t much of them translated into languages I could understand, especially of the cartoons. I started learning Japanese at that time but since there wasn’t much opportunity to watch japanimation in its original language I was also willing to watch whatever station airing it in whatever language. A friend recommended French TV to me for that reason.
I didn’t speak any French beforehand (except for some naughty words) and the little I understand now I learned from watching japonais dessin animé on TF1. Ranma 1/2, Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon are the most widely known among the ones I watched and especially Dragon Ball was also popular with some of my friends which met weekly at my place to play games, and watch the newest Dragon Ball episode in French.
The same friend who recommended TF1 to me also had a curious opinion on the following fight between Videl and Spopovitch:
Basically he said by entering that ring Videl had taken full responsibility for everything happening to her afterwards. He was pretty much alone with that evaluation, we all protested strongly. But he insisted that her opponent was fully justified in all his actions by the battle situation and that Videl alone was responsible. Suffice to say the rules of the tournament also disagreed with him in this regard as killing an opponent results in disqualification and Spopovitch was going to kill her if his companion or Gohan hadn’t stopped him.

A friend of mine, he’s so smart. Reads all those works by supposedly smart people and disproves all their theories. Finds the flaw in their logic and makes it collapse like a house of cards. He had a reputation for doing this too, for disproving smart people left and right.
One time, when he was at my place, I had him play a puzzle platformer. The kind of game where you solve puzzles to progress through the levels. It was too slow-paced for his taste, apparently. He asked me if I didn’t have any shoot’em ups. Some game where he could destroy things.
True story.
