Mute Hero(ine) RPG
What’s the point of mute heroes in RPGs? Doesn’t it kill the narrative if your hero never says a word? Well, if you think these kind of questions are valid you just don’t get the difference between RPGs and non-interactive narratives. The mute hero is an avatar, a blank slate, for you to project your own personality on. The hero is NOT really mute, unless you don’t fill in the gaps. Got that? Okay.
Now I’m gonna demonstrate how mute hero RPGs work. Read the text. When it’s your turn to play your role the computer will display “…”. Think about how you want to reply, then click on the “…”. Friendly reminder: Due to the limitations of this kind of game the outcome of the game will not change depending on your choices. The game does not know (nor care) how you react.
The setting is a political interview on TV. You’re playing the role of German chancellor Angela Merkel. The game is in German, so if you don’t speak German you can’t play.
